Overview
Atomoxetine, sold under the brand name Strattera, among others, is a medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It may be used alone or along with stimulants. Use of atomoxetine is only recommended for those who are at least six years old. It is taken by mouth
Dosage
Strattera should be initiated at a total daily dose of approximately 0.5 mg/kg and increased after a minimum of 3 days to a target total daily dose of approximately 1.2 mg/kg administered either as a single daily dose in the morning or as evenly divided doses in the morning and late afternoon/early evening. No additional benefit has been demonstrated for doses higher than 1.2 mg/kg/day
Side Effects
Common side effects of Strattera include: constipation, insomnia, decreased appetite, and xerostomia. Other side effects include: dermatitis, dysmenorrhea, erectile dysfunction, dizziness, dyspepsia, ejaculatory disorder, urinary hesitancy, ejaculation failure, and diaphoresis
